Managing my stress response through a trauma lens

Who is the course for: this course is for those working with children and young people (in any capacity), and parents, carers, or those caring for children and young people.

About the course:  Delivered by the MYA RAISE Team, this bitesize session will explore what stress is and how it feels physically and emotionally, the positive and negative effects of stress, along with dispelling myths about stress, managing our stress. Introducing the physical response of trauma and how we better understand how our body feels after experiencing trauma, with the introduction of coping skills and some self-care strategies.

Providing time for personal reflection to plan an effective plan for coping with stress on order to ensure we are regulated to support children and young people. The bitesize promotes the importance of collectively caring for one another to build stress resilience.

The learning outcomes:

  • Increases awareness of your own stress response in relation to triggers and coping strategies
  • Increased knowledge of the poly vagal system and the trauma response
  • Knowledge of evidenced based coping strategies that can calm the stress response.
  • Personal reflective time to create new ways to manage stress
